With the on-going events in Sushant’s death case, somehow patriarchy has also made its way in the solving of the case. This has made many celebrities open up against the custom that has been chewing the society like a termite. Now, Tahira Kashyap has come forward to share an open letter on Patriarchy. She mentioned she was ‘jolted by this new wave of anger against patriarchy’ after the arrest of Rhea. In addition, there were also many campaigns like #justiceforRhea and #releaseRhea post the arrest of Rhea Chakraborty.
Tahira Kashyap talks about ‘Patriarchy’:
In the letter published by Mid-Day, Tahira talked about how women have to suffer weird comments and phases due to patriarchal set-up of society. She talked about an incident that took place at her home when she was asked to serve greens to Ayushmann Khurrana, her husband. She was deeply raged and angered by the behaviour and also had guts to reply back to the relative.
The filmmaker also wrote, “Red hot with anger, I turned around and went up to the relative and said, actually he is making me a salad tonight, I’ll ask him to make an extra serving for himself’.”
Tahira also mentioned another incident when Ayushmann, his brother, brother’s wife and she were in a meeting with a realtor for their new house. She said, “The agent threw open the charts on the table. We huddled over it trying to figure which room should go where. As the four of us were mulling over where to have an exclusive master bedroom space for mom-in-law and father-in-law, the agent’s assistant jumped in with an ingenious suggestion. ‘We should have a service kitchen along the main kitchen, both the Khurrana bahus would want an exclusive space to cook nai?’”
Henceforth, the look that she gave to the assistant made them understand that there was something wrong that was spoken.
The incidents described by her surely convey the sickness of the patriarchal society. Share your thoughts about what Tahira Kashyap wrote through the comments below.
