When Robin Sohi arrived in Mumbai, he decided to pursue acting. He is a Punjabi Sikh from Haryana. He enrolled in an acting class and subsequently performed in theatre to learn the craft. Savdhan India served as his screen debut before he went on to star in Ekta, Raja Abroadiya, Lafangey Nawab, and the TV series Sanjeevani 2 and Naagin 6. In the Punjabi television programme Tera Dil Vich Rehan De, he also played the lead role. Now, the actor will appear in Ajooni. He talks about his journey as well as this new show.
The actor reveals, “In Ajooni, I’m portraying a negative character. He is the protagonist character’s brother. I influence the primary character’s family, turn them into my family, and stir up trouble. It’s a cameo, but it’s a powerful one.”
As you look back, Robin visited Mumbai in 2013. He hails from Haryana’s Karnal. “I was raised by Punjabi Sikhs. Later, I moved to Mumbai after finishing grade 12 and finished my graduation there. I completed a course in acting at the Zee Media Institute and joined the theatre company ABSS. I spent two years there getting my training,” he continues.

He admits, “I got it through a friend,” while speaking of his first TV break. It was fragmented. When I first entered the industry at the age of 17, I had trouble because I knew so nothing about it or anyone in particular. Many believe that an actor’s appearance is crucial. Robin, though, thinks otherwise. The actor, who would have opened a restaurant if his acting career hadn’t taken off, adds that while he doesn’t believe appearances are important in movies and on-demand content, they are in TV at some point.
He replies, “I think TV is a different world completely from films,” when asked what Bollywood and TV are different from one another. Robin further adds, “Cast and crew, actors… In movies, everything is different. When making a movie, there is no need to rush; we have time to consider and refine our character. Yet, there is extremely little time to shoot TV shows, and there is also a significant budget disparity.”
When asked if he would take on a Punjabi film, he replies in the affirmative. “I’d really like to. As Punjabi is both my native language and the Punjabi business is currently expanding, apna pan sa lagta hai while filming. I want to connect with the global audience of the Punjabi business through my work. My friends and family will also be pleased,” he concludes.
