Mirabai expressed her gratitude for her victory by saying, “I’m overjoyed to have earned the medal. I was worried since the entire country was watching me. They had high expectations. I was determined to give it my all. I didn’t have a fantastic show in 2016. It served as a learning experience for me. I learned where I needed to grow. And I put forth a lot of effort to achieve this.”
During her four successful tries across the competition, Mirabai lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk). Zhihui Hou of China won gold with a total weight of 210kg, setting a new Olympic record, while Windy Cantika Aisah of Indonesia took bronze with a total weight of 194kg.
