The investigation into the Aryan Khan case has been moved from the NCB’s Mumbai zone to a centralized team. This means that Sameer Wankhede, the Mumbai zonal head, would not be in charge of this case, as well as five others, including the one involving Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik’s son-in-law Sameer Khan. Sanjay Singh, the Deputy Director-General, and his team will take up the Aryan case, as well as the other five cases.
In response to the news, Sameer Wankhede told ANI, “I haven’t been kicked out of the investigation. My writ petition in court requested that the subject be investigated by a central agency. As a result, the Aryan khan case and the Sameer Khan case are being investigated by the Delhi NCB’s SIT [special investigation team]. It is a collaboration between the NCB teams in Delhi and Mumbai.”
Meanwhile, the NCB has issued a press release confirming that the central agency will take over six cases. According to the official statement, “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising officers from the Operations Branch of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Headquarters has been constituted by the Director-General, NCB to take over a total of 06 cases from NCB Mumbai Zonal Unit which have national and international ramifications, in order to conduct a deeper investigation. No officer or officers have been REMOVED from their current positions, and they will continue to assist the Operations Branch inquiry as needed until further directives are given. It is reminded that the NCB operates as a single integrated agency across India.
