While open to doing a series on OTT, actress Sargun Mehta says she wants to pick these projects carefully. The actress, whose movie Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne is currently streaming on OTT, said she wants to work on a project that can only be done in this way. She answers, “I don’t want to do things on OTT that I’ve already done in movies. If I do something on OTT, it won’t be something you can see in movies. Certain initiatives don’t function well in the setting. Mirzapur is a fantastic OTT concept, but it can’t be turned into a movie. There are some subjects that individuals would rather stay at home and avoid watching on television. I don’t think there’s a substitute for movies.”
She adds about Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne, “I absolutely liked the concept. The movie checked all the boxes for me because I’m picky about family entertainment. A movie like this, as opposed to one with more gore, is, in my opinion, more pleasurable to see with your family. I always choose a character based on my instincts. I should be excited by a story. If I am with the author in the present moment and wondering what will happen next in the middle of an hour-long narration, I am sold. As an audience member, I also listen to stories. I will see the movie if it interests me as a viewer.”
Sargun Mehta:
She believes, however, that going to the movies in a theatre is better. According to the actress, “In my opinion, seeing a movie in a cinema is the best possible experience. I adore going to the movies. Every time I start an OTT movie, it takes me 5 days to finish it. We can’t avoid a number of domestic diversions. Theatre was meant to be a larger-than-life experience, closing you off from the outside world and allowing you to live inside the heads of the characters.”
She actually fell in love with the genre after seeing a Punjabi movie in a theatre. The actress concludes by stating, “I went to see a Punjabi movie called Jatt & Juliet, which was popular at the time. I thought, “This is home,” and pondered why I had never tried making Punjabi movies as I left the theatre. It simply felt right.”
