Fursat, a short film by Vishal Bhardwaj, is not only exquisitely shot and cinematically stunning, but it also employs a broadway-style narrative. Everyone, notably the female lead actor Wamiqa Gabbi, was left stunned by her flawless dancing performance, even her director.
Vishal Bharadwaj was initially concerned about how Wamiqa would fit into this contemporary broadway-style musical short film, but after meeting her during the rehearsal, he felt confident with his decision. The ace Bollywood filmmaker comments, “I was always confident in Wamiqa’s acting ability, but knowing that she isn’t a skilled dancer, I had my worries. We even talked about possibly shortening the choreography if necessary at some point. After the first rehearsal, though, she really impressed us all. She chose this challenge because of her commitment to her profession, and I couldn’t be more proud of her!”

In addition, Wamiqa says of working on a novel format, “I enjoy experimenting with different storytelling genres. Execution, however, is the most important aspect of this format experiment. It can absolutely go wrong if it isn’t carried out correctly. I’m grateful for the opportunity to test out this format with Vishal Sir. The devil, as they say, lies in the details, so sir just goes with that. He draws attention to the minute details that set his work class different.”
For a song sequence, Ishaan and Wamiqa were required to undergo classes to learn modern dance, a style that Wamiqa had never performed before. The actress could only train for 8 days because of her other commitments, but she still did well. More and more people are becoming fans of Vishal Bhardwaj and Wamiqa Gabbi’s most recent short film, Fursat. Because the story of the movie is primarily told through dancing.
