Deepika Padukone rose to fame with her first project, Om Shanti Om, itself. The young actress at the age of 19 bagged the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. Her first project in 2007 while helped her to earn fame, also made her subject to a lot of criticisms. We have seen her grow over the years and she has definitely bettered her craft. The actress has come a long way as she was earlier a model. She was even criticised for switching her career from modelling to acting. Yes she was just a teen when she debuted for Om Shanti Om but her craft was sidelined heavily. In a recent interview with India Today, Deepika opened up about the criticism and backlash that she faced post the release of Om Shanti Om.

The Piku actress said, “There was also a section of people who scathingly criticized my work. Oh, she is a model. she cannot act: My accent was made fun of. A lot was said and written about me and my craft, and, the truth is, all of it was extremely hurtful. When you are all of 21, this kind of brickbats most certainly affect you.”
However, she was still mature enough to not let criticisms affect her negatively. She solely focussed on bettering her craft with every project that she took. She even said that criticisms work for her as ‘fuel,’ a fuel that pushes her to work hard, improve her skills and evolve the various aspects of her craft.
Chennai Express actress said, “After hustling and grinding through the modeling world for some years, I finally got my big break in movies. I landed Om Shanti Om at the age of 19 and was immediately thrown into the deep end. Deepika said, “I was extremely raw and unaware, but Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan held my hand and guided me throughout the entire process.”
