On July 19, Raj Kundra was detained in connection with the creation and distribution of pornographic videos. He was subsequently taken into police custody and held there until July 23. Kundra, a 45-year-old businessman, was brought before a Magistrate Court, where the police requested a further seven days of police detention, which was granted. Raj Kundra’s police custody is prolonged till July 27.
Raj Kundra Bail Denied
Kundra’s bail application is denied. Raj’s bank accounts will be investigated, according to the Mumbai Police. They accuse Raj of using money gained from pornography for online betting, which is why his bank accounts will have to be investigated.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale identified Raj Kundra as the main conspirator in the case. The investigation began in February when Mumbai cops searched a home on Madh Island and discovered a live porn video filming ring. At the time, several arrests were made. Raj Kundra’s name came up in the investigation after the property cell discovered the participation of Kenrin, a UK production firm whose executive, Umesh Kamat, was detained by the police. He was a former Raj Kundra employee who was suspected of posting at least eight “pornographic and filthy” films recorded by Gehna Vasisth to a social networking app for monetary gain.
Kundra Sold Videos for $25,000
Raj, Shilpa Shetty‘s husband, is also said to have been arrested for streaming sexual films on the ‘Hotshots’ app. According to Mumbai’s Joint Police Commissioner (Crime), Milind Bharambe, the free software was removed from both Apple and Google Playstore due to its content.
Raj Kundra sold ‘Hotshots’ for $25,000 in 2019. According to sources, Kundra and his brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi, who lives in the United Kingdom, collaborated on this app. According to IANS, Raj owns Viaan Industries Ltd. While Pradeep Bakshi, a British citizen married to Kundra’s sister, is the Chairman of Kenrin Ltd. in London.
Kenrin Ltd produced the smartphone app ‘HotShots Digital Entertainment,’ and both businesses worked on it. From his Viaan Industries headquarters, Raj Kundra allegedly supplied the content and oversaw the UK business.
The Mumbai police have also detained Raj Kundra’s IT employee, Ryan J Tharpe. TV actress Gehna Vashisht, Yasmin R. Khan, Monu Joshi, Pratibha Nalavade, M. Atif Ahmed, Dipankar P. Khasnavis, Bhanusurya Thakur, Tanvir Hashmi, and Umesh Kamath were among the nine individuals detained by the Mumbai police in this case.
