Review-
Based on true events, the movie starts with a chilling scene perfectly panned out by the debutant writer-director Bhanu Pratap Singh, by showing us the dreadful haunted ship and later taking us in Prithvi’s (protagonist played by Vicky Kaushal) poignant past. Vicky skillfully carries out its character’s guilt and heaviness in the first half of the movie and solving the ship’s mysterious deaths gives his life a purpose after the death of his wife and child.
The actor tries to be consistent even after the limitations and repetitions of the screenplay, later, the movie tries to do every possible thing in the horror manual to scare us but instead fails miserably. The setting and the dark theme are doable but the CGI effects and the makeup unintentionally make us laugh instead of scaring. There were a lot of expectations from the film but it turned out to be a mainstream Bollywood horror film which doesn’t manage us to scare very well.
Bhumi Pednekar (playing the character of Prithvi’s wife) has a long special appearance in the movie with Ashutosh Rana’s character which is so abruptly written that you will not be able to take him seriously.
The film has a short runtime but it feels long and exhausting as the scenes are not finished properly and very abruptly written during the whole movie you will be anticipating for the big reveal.
To conclude, the backstory is not believable, rookie-level writing and screenplay, average acting, bad CGI and funny makeup. The movie had a lot of potentials but it seemed hurried and unfinished.
