Ram Gopal Varma is an ace filmmaker who does wonders to the films of the genre gangster. His next movie, D Company, will soon hit the theatres, which as usual, we are expecting to be one of its kind. The director has given some quality art to the Indian cinema, to name a few, Satya, Company and Sarkar. What seems surprising now is why the director has not cast even a single star in the D Company. Well, this is pretty much intriguing and worth-question. In an interview with Bollywood Life, Ram Gopal revealed the reason that he did not cast Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in Satya. The movie was released in 1998 but the casting procedure began in 1997.
Here’s Why Ram Gopal Varma Did Not Cast Shah Rukh Khan & Salman Khan as Bhiku Mhatre and Satya
He admitted that genre films do get a bigger audience with the involvement of the stars but that comes at the expense of losing the quality of the film. He called it not being honest with the film. RGV reasoned by saying that had he cast Shah Rukh or Salman as Bhiku Mhatre or Satya’s roles, the film would not have remained the same. The director shed light on it by saying that the film if worked, would have been for a different reason.
RGV said, “Genre films might get a bigger audience if you cast stars, but that’s at the expense of not being honest to the film. In Satya, for example, in 1997, had Shah Rukh or Salman both played Bhiku Mhatre or Satya’s roles, I don’t think it would have been the same film. Even if it worked, it might have worked for different reasons since stars work anyway, but, it wouldn’t have remained the same film because they’d have looked very different. Both Satya and Bhiku Mhatre looked very believable, I could easily believe these guys lived in the chawls or dirty bylanes, which would’ve never looked believable had Shah Rukh and Salman played those parts.”
