The year 2020 saw the demise of many film stalwarts. One of them is Late Choreographer Saroj Khan. She was the first woman choreographer of the Bollywood industry. Her colourful and widely spread career for over 40 years saw her choreographing more than 3000 songs. However, out of the many films close to her heart, she couldn’t see the release of one of them due to the deadly pandemic. The movie is titled ‘Raag.’ It is all about the Bediya community which is found in central provinces and has been engaged in singing and dancing as ‘rai’ folk artists. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are the sets where the community dwells. Now, the good news for the fans of Saroj Khan is that the dream project of the choreographer is nearing the release date of 26th March 2021.
Late Saroj Khan’s Dream Project to be Released in Cinemas on THIS Date
The movie is about a girl, Madhu, who is from the same community. She rebels to bring a change through education. Thereafter, the story covers the unfolding of the process. The project is helmed by Arvind Tripathi. ‘Raag’ features an ensemble star cast that has actors like Rajpal Yadav, Rakesh Bedi, Sudha Chandran, Mohan Joshi, Yashpal Sharma, Milind Gunaji, Manisha Marzara, etc.
Commenting on the occasion producer Piyush Mundhada said “The pandemic had brought the cinemas to a grinding halt last year. During the pandemic, we lost Saroj Ji as well – she was the backbone of our project. Right from helping us in finalising the story to choreographing to suggesting putting an item number in the film to casting one of her favourite students – Heena Panchal for the same; Saroj Ji helped us a lot. Despite all our earnest efforts the film could not be released while she was around. However, we are now releasing it on 26th March 2021, and it is our tribute to the noble soul. It is also the first work of the late choreographer to release in theatres posthumously. Had she been there, she would have been very proud of the same; however, her blessings are always there with us.”
