Chhalaang Movie Review:
Chhalaang at first gives us a sense of the closeness of Montu (Rao) with Hindi teacher Shukla ji (played by Saurabh Shukla). The two catch up very often. Also, at the end of each school day, they get drunk and ponder over life’s questions at a rooftop. They seem to be victims of monotonous and freezing time of life as it gradually just passes by. The early scenes make the audience crack up into laughter. The movie is set in Haryana, although it was shot in Mehboob Studios. It is easy to elicit the true sense of a small town. The movie does not dive into giving us a clearer view of a cute love story but focusses on developing a love triangle.
Montu also spends free time as a proud member of a Romeo squad. He also seldom stalks school’s new computer teacher Neelu. Musically, the movie seems bland although the story calls for one. The song ‘Care Ni Karda’ only comes before the credits roll out. In the second half of the movie, we find it all spiced up. Bharuccha’s character adds the much-needed comic relief to the story. Rao has stolen the show with acting and Mehta has lived up to the expectations of the critics. Saurabh Shukla, Satish Kaushik and Ila Arun compliment the movie very well. Baljinder Kaur, who plays Montu’s mother, also essays the role well.
Bollywood Hush would give the movie 3 stars out of 5.
