With the increase of covid-19 patients we saw the nationwide lockdown. The coronavirus induced lockdown brought a halt at the Indian cinema. The movie halls were shut and the films that were scheduled for release during the period were pushed forward. Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer sports drama ’83 was one of them. The movie was all set for a release on April 10, however, the target couldn’t be touched due to the cinema halls being shut. Hence, the makers of the movie were keen to release it as soon as the theatres open. However now even though the Maharashtra government has uplifted the restriction allowing 50% capacity in theatres, the movie is yet again pushed. Earlier the Christmas period was decided for the release.

Shibashish Sarkar, CEO of Reliance Entertainment told Mumbai Mirror, “Christmas is no longer a possibility as we won’t be able to set up a marketing campaign within a month. Also, the overseas markets are important for both films and some of them have shut again due to second wave of Covid. We’re looking at the January and March windows for ’83 and Sooryavanshi.”
The movie ’83 shows the journey of Indian cricket team’s victory in the 1983 World Cup. In the movie, Ranveer Singh essays the role of the then Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev. Saqib Saleem will be seen as Mohinder Amarnath and Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar. Deepika Padukone will be seen as Ranveer’s wife in the movie Romi Dev. Also director Kabir Khan told Bollywood Life that Padukone had genuinely liked the role. Although she knew she had a small role and that the movie is about the boys. Yet she loved the script and hence joined the team.
