Last month, there was excitement amongst fans for the release of Sooryavanshi on April 2. However, the release date of the Akshay Kumar starrer has been pushed to a later date now. While the trade and industry related to the entertainment field was excited, their expectations have been turned down. The movie is a huge extravaganza and starring Akshay Kumar and directed by Rohit Shetty. It seems that due to the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, the makers of Sooryavanshi are planning to not change the release date.
Sooryavanshi to NOT Release on April 2; Makers to Come up With a New Date Soon
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The makers of Sooryavanshi, including Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty, have jointly decided that the film should not release on the date of April 2. The cases are increasing not just in Maharashtra now but also in other places of India. Sooryavanshi is a big-budget film and it won’t be feasible to release at a time when night curfew will be imposed in certain parts of the country.”
The source added, “Also, with the Central government allowing 100% occupancy in cinemas from February 1, everyone had hoped that by April 2, governments of all major states would also give the nod for full occupancy in theatres. But now it’s clear that it won’t happen in the near future. So it doesn’t make sense to bring the film in such a tense period.”
As per Bollywood Hungama’s report, the stakeholders are to set a meeting today in the afternoon. They will be planning the release date of the movie.
A trade expert shared that this was anticipated as a film like this demands a one-month marketing window. This did not happen last week and therefore he was sure of delays in the movie’s release.
