. The yet-to-be-titled Amazon Original The Lord of the Rings television series will launch on Amazon Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on Friday, September 2, 2022, with new episodes accessible weekly. Season one of the show was completed on August 2 in New Zealand.
The new epic drama takes J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythical Second Age of Middle-history earth to the big screen for the first time. The series follows an ensemble cast of characters. Both known and new, as they battle the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth, beginning thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books.
Executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, and Sharon Tal Yguado. Co-executive producer Wayne Che Yip, director Charlotte Brändström, and producer Christopher Newman join showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will lead the series.
