According to producer Rajan Shahi, writer Zama Habib’s contributions to his trip owe him a great deal. The producer recalls the occasions when Zama was present for Rajan and claims that he was a continuous source of advice for Rajan. He says, “We at DKP owe a great deal to the man who has been a constant mentor and guiding force for me, someone who has constantly stood with us during my journey of 16–17 years. I still recall how I had no idea how to go when I first launched my production company with my television programme, Bidaai. I recall questioning whether the show’s content is accurate, and I also recall meeting Zama Ji, who took control of the entire plot, decided what needed to be done on the show through excellent collaboration, and produced a historical show. I gained a great deal of knowledge from this man throughout the Bidaai phase.”
He further adds, “Even after that, I still sought his advice before each DKP show. He is the creator of one of the most recognisable TV programmes ever. All the Akshara to Naira passages in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai came out so brilliantly under his direction even at the crucial moment, and the programme was subsequently rebuilt. Zama sir has served as our compass during Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’s 14-year run. His brilliant ideas are priceless to us, even though we had to build the trilogy due to the way Zama sir offered us a breakthrough. He was the one who entered and constructed a comprehensive journey of Abhimanyu’s and Akshara’s characters when our programme came down the pipeline five months ago,”
Producer Rajan Shahi:
Rajan Shahi claims, “Even in Anupamaa, he is the one whose counsel I heed at every turn. He is the DKP productions employee I want to thank the most. He always shows up with such unconditional affection. When Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai was about to be abandoned, he entered, worked his magic with each and every character, and continued the story. I have learned a lot about human behaviour from him. He is a major contributor to my success as a producer even though he is rarely involved. His understanding of human behaviour and interpersonal connections is extraordinary. We owe a lot to him for hits like Anupamaa, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Ye Risthey Hai Pyar Ke, and Bidaai. And I eagerly anticipate his advice.”
According to Rajan, his understanding has significantly improved Rajan’s plotlines. Shahi adds, “He has a keen sense of the moment and a thorough understanding of literature. Many writers nowadays lack such information, a broad or wide range of ideas, or a comprehension of human nature. He is such an intelligent, well-read man. Listening to his views and opinions is a terrific way for me to learn. Because he teaches you to undo so much in life and because you learn so much from him, spending time with Zama Sir is like a soul-cleansing procedure. Hats off to this guy! He is the brains behind all of the best stuff produced by DKP or Shahi Productions.”
