On Thursday in New Delhi, Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, presented the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards to Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota. Jalota was chosen to receive the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award for his musical contributions in 2020. Eleven years after the well-known bhajan singer was given the Padma Shri honour. The Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s National Academy of Music, Dance, and Theatre, bestows this award, also known as the Akademi Puraskar, which is the highest Indian distinction awarded to individuals in the performing arts.
The well-known musician could not stop expressing gratitude to the Indian government for honouring him. “That is a unique feeling, in fact. Given to artists for their contributions to the fields of dance, music, theatre, and other performing arts. This honour is extremely unique. I am incredibly grateful that the Indian government chose me for the Akademi Puraskar, said 69-year-old Jalota.

Purshottam Das Jalota, the father of Jalota, was a well-known bhajan singer who was also born in Nainital, Uttarakhand, in 1953. Aisi Lagi Lagan, Main Nahi Makhan Khayo, Rang De Chunariya, Jag Me Sundar Hai Do Naam, and Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini are just a few of the iconic bhajans that Jalota sang after beginning his musical career as a chorus singer for All India Radio. In New Delhi on Thursday, awards were awarded to a total of 128 performers in the fields of music, dance, theatre, traditional, folk, and puppetry.

In his early years, he also lived in Savarkundla, Gujarat, for a few years. He has two sisters, Anjali Dhir and Anita Mehra, as well as two younger brothers, Anil Jalota and Ajay Jalota. Currently, Ajay resides in California.
