The veteran Bollywood actress Aruna Irani recently shared her struggles publically. She revealed how many problems she faced after her wedding rumours with the late Bollywood legend Mehmood Ali went viral. Aruna didn’t mind doing roles of the female lead after the rumours. For the unversed, Aruna and Mehmood Ali were one of the favourite pairs in the Hindi film industry. Their fans and filmmakers loved their chemistry on screen.
Their chemistry during the 1970s was so sparky that people actually believed that they were in love in real life and were married to each other. However, these rumours didn’t bring anything good to the seasoned actress. Her career came to a halt for almost two or two and a half years. She confessed how all her troubles came to an end when the bigwig Bollywood producer Dada Kondke rescued her. Because no producers wanted to work with her until she cleared the air.
Aruna Irani:
In the year 1961, Aruna made her debut with the movie Gunga Jumna. She then went on to appear in blockbuster TV shows. The list included Safar, Andaz, Caravan, Bobby, Dil to Pagal Hai, Gopi Kishan, Beta, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Doli Saja Ke and Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand. Later, Aruna and Mehmood gave blockbusters with films like Aulad, Humjoli, Devi, Bombay To Goa and Naya Zamana.
In a candid conversation, Aruna confessed, “I am not sure how the rumour of my marriage with Mehmood Ali started. This led to no producer working with me. My troubles came to an end when Dada Kondke offered me a song in his Marathi film Andhala Maarto Dola. This gave a jolting start to my acting career once again.”
She further added, “I was shooting at Asha Studio for the song when I met Rajkumar Kohli who was also shooting there as well. He was surprised to see me and asked, ‘Arey Aruna tu kaam kar rahi hai?’ I said yes, I am working. He said, ‘Mujhe laga tune shaadi kar li toh ab kaam nahin karti (thought you got married so you don’t work anymore)’.”
