The majority of people in the nation were unaware of the term “nepotism.” However, the phrase became well-known to everyone after Kangana Ranaut said it on Season 5 of Koffee With Karan in February 2017 and the manner she and producer-director Karan Johar got into a fight. It will therefore be interesting to learn that nepotism in Bollywood is the subject of Karan Johar’s next Showtime series on Disney+ Hotstar. At the unveiling of the teaser for Kajol’s next web series, The Trial, Gaurav Banerjee, Head of Content for Disney+ Hotstar & HSM Entertainment Network, Disney Star, revealed this important information. Gaurav Banerjee, Kajol, Sheeba Chaddha, Jisshu Sengupta, Kubbra Sait, Gaurav Pandey, Aamir Ali, Aseem Hattangadi, and Deepak Dhar (Founder & CEO, Banijay Asia) were also present.
After the success of shows like Taaza Khabar and The Night Manager, Gaurav Banerjee was questioned about what viewers might anticipate from Disney+ Hotstar this year. He says, “We are really excited about the year we have had so far,” Gaurav retorted. “Taaza Khabar, a radically different show that featured Bhuvan Bam, was the first one to air. The Night Manager came next. We had to carefully consider how to translate a political thriller set in Western Europe against the backdrop of the Afghan War to India. It was a fascinating, significant challenge.”
Karan Johar:
He further adds, “We have a lot coming up that is quite exciting, said Gaurav Banerjee. The Night Manager’s conclusion comes first. Then Karan Johar, Kajol’s best friend, will return with a new season of Koffee With Karan. Soon, he’ll start aiming for it. He is currently producing another intriguing Showtime programme for us that is focused on Bollywood nepotism. I assume he has some knowledge of it (laughs).”
Additionally, Gaurav stated, “Suparn is also working on another series that should debut this year. We will shortly be revealing a series we have with Neeraj Pandey. New seasons of Criminal Justice, Aarya, and Special Ops are finally available. So, certainly, the slate is exciting.”
In September of last year, Showtime made its debut. According to Johar’s statement in the official press release at the time that the show would “lift the curtain on India’s biggest trade secrets in the entertainment industry.”
