For the unversed, In 2012, the two actors got to know one another on the shoot of their movie Fukrey. Richa and Ali, who both portrayed diametrically opposed characters in the movie, got along well because of their shared traits outside of work. The two were close friends for a number of years before word of their alleged connection broke in 2017. Ali, though, admitted that he had been an admirer of Richa’s since first seeing her in Gangs of Wasseypur, even before they had ever met. He said to Femina, “I was astounded since I had never witnessed that type of variety in a person. As an actress, I was drawn to her because of the compassion required to do a performance with such nuance. I also felt it would be interesting to see, know, or meet her so I could learn from her.”
The “three magical words” – I love you — were first uttered by Richa in a declaration of love for Ali. Richa revealed in her interview with Brides Today: “In 1992, Robert Downey Jr. starred in the British-American biographical comedy film Chaplin. Which we were viewing at my place. He seemed to enjoy the movie, and I was glad to have met someone who shared my preferences. I told him, “This is extremely sweet, I adore you,” at that point.” Richa was the first to profess her affection for Ali. But it took him three months for him to reciprocate.
