Following their public defamation trial last year, Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard reached a $1 million settlement, which will be donated. The settlement money that Johnny Depp received from his ex-wife Amber Heard will be given to charity. According to reports, the actor would donate $200,000 to each of five charities out of the $1 million settlement from Amber. He has chosen a variety of charities, from those that help sick children to those that offer secure housing for various communities.
According to a source cited in a CNN report on Tuesday, Johnny Depp has decided to contribute the settlement money to the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Marlon Brando’s Tetiaroa Society charity, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance. These five charities were also mentioned in the report. According to the source, the actor intends to give $200,000 to each of the five charities.
According to a report by Entertainment Tonight, one of the charities chosen by Johnny Depp is Make-A-Film, which matches actors, writers, directors, and producers with kids who are suffering catastrophic illnesses or those that could lead to their death. The Painted Turtle, the second charity, offers ailing kids a free camp experience that can change their lives.
Johnny Depp & Amber Heard:
Red Feather, another nonprofit organisation, collaborates with Native American communities to create and execute effective housing solutions. In the interim, the Teitaroa Society safeguards the future of coastal and island settlements. The sixth gift from Johnny will go to the Amazonia Fund Alliance, which supports the funding of charitable organisations in Brazil.
The Hollywood celebrities wed in 2015 in their Los Angeles home following several years of dating. Amber filed for divorce and secured a temporary restraining order against Johnny on May 23, 2016. She said that during their relationship, Johnny had physically abused her, most frequently when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In March 2019, Johnny sued Amber for defamation after reading her op-ed in the Washington Post, in which she discussed experiencing domestic abuse. The complaint was for $50 million. The article made no mention of Johnny. The narrative was revealed, though, as their divorce proceeding made headlines. Johnny received $10 million in compensation damages and $5 million in punitive damages from their trial jury in June 2022. Later, the punitive damages were cut to $350,000.
Defamation case:
Although Johnny prevailed in his ex-wife’s defamation case, the jury also determined that Johnny was responsible for the incident due to prior remarks made by his attorney in which he referred to Amber’s claims as a “hoax.” Compensation damages of $2 million were given to Amber. She has made her move to Spain official. According to The Independent, she recently claimed in an interview that she and her daughter Oonagh Paige had moved to Spain from Hollywood.
In the meantime, Johnny recently attended the Cannes Film Festival 2023, where he premiered the event in Maiwenn’s Jeanne du Barry as King Louis XV. Videos of his film receiving a standing ovation after its debut and fans lining up outside the theatre to welcome him back to the big screen were extensively posted on social media last month.
