Bollywood News & Gossip | Kangana Ranaut, who was arrested by the Bandra Police on sedition charges along with her sister Rangoli Chandel, has filed a petition with the Bombay High Court, requesting that authorities reissue her passport so she may travel overseas for filming. On Tuesday, the case will be heard by a division bench led by Justice Prasanna B Varale.
According to an interim plea filed last week by counsel Rizwan Siddiquee, Kangana Ranaut needs to go to Hungary from June 15 to August 30 for the filming of her film “Dhaakad”.
Ranaut’s passport was about to expire on September 15, according to the petition. She applied to the Passport Authority of India for a renewal. The administration, however, raised concerns, claiming that the Bandra FIR filed against her is preventing the renewal.
“Production houses make significant financial commitments in scheduling such filming locations. The applicant is compelled to engage as an actress,” the appeal stated.
Mumbai Metropolitan Magistrate’s court ordered the police to look into a complaint filed by Munawwar Ali Sayyed. The incident took place in October last year. The Bollywood casting director, and fitness trainer has alleged that Ranaut and Chandel had defamed Bollywood. She has spread “division and hatred between Hindu and Muslim communities” through their tweets and statements.
The Bandra police filed an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and her sister under IPC sections. The sections are 153A (promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, etc. ), 295A (deliberate acts hurting religious sentiments), and 124-A (promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, etc).
Kangana Ranaut’s appeal further asks the court to affirm or declare that the magistrate’s ruling. The ruling is being contested by another bench, would not jeopardize the petitioner’s entitlement to renew her passport.
