The global covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the whole world and has not spared the entertainment industry too. Even after a year, all the theatres have not opened yet and the OTT platforms have become the go-to place for movie-makers to release their films. However, as the situation is changing for good, gradually theatrical releases are becoming a pattern now. For example, Roohi, which released last week, starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, is doing decently well at the box office. Now, it is time for John Abraham to gear up for the theatrical release of his movie Mumbai Saga which will release this Friday. Yes, it does seem a risky step, owing to the condition of the pandemic but still, the handsome hunk made sure the gangster-drama gets a theatrical release.
John Abraham Takes an Indirect Jibe at Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt and Ayushmann Khurrana with THIS Comment?
Talking to Mid-Day, John said that when he heard the makers were in talks with Amazon Prime, he immediately had a word with Bhushan Kumar (producer) and Sanjay Gupta (director). However, the actor still admits that the movie would not make as much money as it did back in 2019. The actor said that all theatres have not opened it but with this film some more will. Also, he added that after the announcement of this film, five other films for theatrical release were also announced.
We know films like Laxmii, Sadak and Gulabo Sitabo did not fetch a good response from the OTT platforms. John believes that an actor takes the OTT as the final choice when he/she is not confident about the project.
John said, “Let’s be honest, it’s a common industry notion that if an actor is not confident of a film, he dumps it on OTT. Almost 90 per cent of movies that opted for OTT release were bad. I am not saying this film is spectacular, but we are not worried about its failure. I won’t use the pandemic as a crutch.”
