Madhur Bhandarkar in an interview:
The ‘Fashion’ movie-maker was asked about his stand in the content versus star power debate. Madhur replied to the same by saying that when a star has to be included in a movie, naturally the budget goes high. If there’s a newcomer, the budget is not that hiked up. ETimes quoted him as, “I have worked with stars and newcomers both. It has been my thing for a long time. When I made ‘Chandni Bar’, I chose Tabu and Atul Kulkarni who was a newcomer at that time. I also cast Ananya Khare who was a new actress at that time. She won a National Award for ‘Chandni Bar’. I introduced Mugdha Godse and Arjun Bajwa in ‘Fashion’. I feel the content is main. Of course, the star value will always be there. When you get a star, you get a budget also. When I made a film like, ‘Heroine’ with Kareena Kapoor Khan, you have to have that sort of budget also.”
