For the unversed, in the 2016 film Udta Punjab, Alia played the role of a migrant girl, Barria. Tripathi tutored her for a month. The actress revealed that she would meet him daily. He would help her in mastering body language and the Jharkhandi dialect. She also learnt to play hockey, though it just served as a back-story of Bauria.
Alia confessed that Udta Punjab was the only time when she fully embraced the idea of ‘method acting. She kept away from her cell phone, worked on her character, interacted with local youth, etc. She said that she did it to prove to herself, and not to the world, that she was a “chameleon as an actor”.
