Day 5 Collection
According to early projections, Sam’s mythical epic only managed to earn a pitiful 50 lakh across all languages on Day 5. An underwhelming performance for someone of Samantha’s celebrity level. The film’s net income as Day 5 approaches is Rs 6.85 crore.
Since its release on April 14, Shaakuntalam has had poor sales. It did poorly even on opening weekend, and the poor performance has since spread to weekdays as well.
More About Shaakuntalam
Shaakuntalam is a mythical drama that tells the legendary love story of Shakuntala and King Dushyant from the Mahabharata. It is based on Kalidasa’s Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam. In addition to Samantha in the lead role, Jayadev Mohan, Sachin Khedekar, Prakash Raj, Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Madhoo, Jisshu Sengupta, and Allu Arha all had significant roles in Shaakuntalam.
There is now no competition for the film, but that will soon change as Salman Khan gets ready to take over the box office with his Eid release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
Shaakuntalam Review
Despite being a love romance, Shaakuntalam also has a good vs. evil struggle. Along with the uninspiring love story, Gunasekhar also makes blunders with the action, which is generally the USP of South Indian movies. You expect an epic battle as a viewer, but what happens is an epic failure. In the action scenes, Dev Mohon seems uninterested. The only bright spot in the film is the young artist who appears close to the finish. The adorable young girl speaks in large, formal conversations with the utmost assurance. While the child contributes, the adults—both in front of and behind the camera—fail to give the story its due.
Samantha received a Shockuntala instead of the Disney that Dil Raju had promised her.
