No actor’s struggle is easy, says actress Monika Singh who has been part of shows such as Guddan Tumse Naa Ho Payega, Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, Bahut Pyar Karte Hai, as well as movies such as Simba, Forty Plus and short film Sthree. Adding that she, too, has gone through a lot in getting to the position she enjoys today in the industry. The actor adds that while she is happy with her career, she knows that there is a lot more in store for her.
The actress says, “I’d say I’m grateful for the opportunities that have come my way, but I also recognise that my career still has a long way to go. There have been many ups and downs, and I have felt like giving up at times. But I have persevered and worked hard to get to where I am today. Also, I am proud of my accomplishments thus far, but I also recognise that there is always room for improvement,”
She further continues, “I faced a lot of rejections in the early stages of my career and had to deal with the constant uncertainty that comes with being an aspiring actress. It was difficult to deal with setbacks when I missed out on auditions or opportunities owing to scheduling difficulties or a lack of expertise. However, I have always tried to remain optimistic and to concentrate on the areas over which I have control. Whenever I lost an opportunity or encountered a setback. I took the time to consider what I could have done differently and to learn from my failures.”
Actress Monika Singh:
To be successful today, the actress adds, one must be always active. She confesses, “In this type of environment, it’s undeniably true that if you don’t seize an opportunity, there will almost certainly be many others who are ready and willing to do so. However, I feel that the key to success in this industry is not to take every chance that comes your way. But to be strategic and discriminating about the ones you do take. This includes looking for projects and roles that are actually relevant to me as an actor. And that matches my aspirations and values. It also entails being open to new and innovative platforms while yet being cautious. And deliberate about the projects I choose to work on.”
Talking about the work she looks forward to doing in future the actress says, “I am interested in opportunities in the action, mythological, historical, and comedy genres. I look for projects with strong female characters in action films, as well as roles in mythological historical films that explore real-life historical individuals.”
The actress further adds, “There are definitely roles that I have wished to play but have not yet had the opportunity to do so. A strong and complex female lead in a dramatic TV series comes to mind as one role. I’d love to sink my teeth into a role that demands a lot of emotional depth and nuance, and that pushes me as an actress to stretch.”
She claims to be always working on herself. “As an actress, I stay current by attending workshops, watching performances, reading scripts, and honing my craft. These enable me to learn new techniques, keep current in the industry, and broaden my horizons. I can continue to improve my craft and grow as an actress by being proactive about updating myself,” Monika adds.
