According to actor Karan Kundra, his new programme Tera Ishq Mein Ghayal differs greatly from what is depicted in the film. In fact, according to the actor, his role was depicted in a distinctive manner.
Karan says, “Veer Oberoi is a difficult character to write since he is prone to become caricatured. When someone plays a negative role, they often make the antagonist an all-black character that isn’t actually there. In reality, neither Mogambo nor purely excellent people exist. Veer does not care what other people think of him because he has his own definition of what is good and wrong. He is intense and without remorse. Making such a persona grounded in reality, as I am attempting to do, becomes challenging.”
If you inquire as to whether he had any reservations about appearing on the programme, he replies, “When I heard the plot and character descriptions, I was excited. But because I’ve grown accustomed to filming for short-lived series for OTT platforms over the past few years, I didn’t think I could handle the busy schedules that go along with television shows. But what would life be without some difficulty?”
Karan Kundrra:
He acknowledges that the Vampire Diaries comparison that has been made to the show also crossed his mind. “It is clear that I love the show and Ian Somerhalder. I was concerned I might try to imitate him. Having said that, why would anyone watch us if we had created a near-exact replica of The Vampire Diaries? They could watch The Vampire Diaries once more. Many are comparing it to the (international) show because of how similar it looks. Nonetheless, fantasy supernatural television is a niche market. Twilight, Dracula, or The Vampire Diaries come to mind when we think of the genre. For instance, when you mention two brothers and their mother, movies like Deewaar or Karan Arjun from 1995 come to mind (1975). For me, the show is worthwhile as long as viewers are interested in viewing it.”
Karan Kundrra concludes by saying, “During other sequences, I felt like I was copying Ian Somerhalder, but then it would dawn on me to represent the scene in my own way. Do you realise how much strain I’m under right now? I have put pressure on myself before others can. When I perform specific parts in romantic television series, the director may occasionally say, “Tere Andar ka Shah Rukh bahar aa gaya.” I also offer to shoot it again. As an actor, you must continually make sure the character has your own stamp.”
