Actress Mitaali Nag claims that the era in which women were primarily depicted on television as damsels in distress is long gone. The actress continues by saying that as society has changed, so has a television.
The actress claims, “Because to ease access to the internet, viewers’ understanding and knowledge are growing and expanding. And for that reason, women’s roles on television are also changing. Today’s female heroines are shown as being highly progressive. They are depicted as opposing the outdated traditions and rituals that have been observed in this place for ages. The modern audience like to witness a strong female protagonist, one who has a voice and knows when and how to use it.”
She responds, “My show Afsar Bitiya was the biggest example of women empowerment,” when asked which TV programme features progressive female characters. Anupamaa, one of the currently airing programmes, has as its theme women’s empowerment. “It’s always excellent to have characters that can inspire people to do better. And bring about a change in society,” she continues. “Because the broadcaster has a moral obligation to do more than just entertain the public. They also have a moral need to contribute to the betterment of society.”
