Surekha Sikri died of a heart attack on Friday at the age of 75. The show Balika Vadhu helped her become a household name in the latter stages of her career. For eight years, the legendary actress portrayed the crafty grandma in the television series. But, before Balika Vadhu, she was a well-known industry veteran. Surekha Sikri was a veteran film and television actress who has received several awards for her contributions to Indian cinema. The actress had been suffering from problems related to a second brain stroke for a few days. Her death has shocked the whole television and cinema industry.

Surekha Sikri was a National School of Drama graduate. In 1978, she made her debut in the business with Amrit Nahta’s Kissa Kursi Ka, which was banned in India during the Emergency. Surekha stated she was still with NSD’s repertory company when she was given the part in a 2015 interview with Scroll.
