Happy Birthday Lara Dutta: When the Actress got tired of doing Glamorous Roles
In a past interview with The Asian Age, the actress had disclosed that she never wanted to be a star. In fact, she had joined the industry to be an actor and not a star. Also, she had said that people liked to label and tag the actors. However, this was not well-received by her.
“I was tired of playing sexy and good-looking glamorous roles, so it was very important for me to do different roles. I was fed up with going from one film into other without seeing any difference in the characters,” she had bluntly stated.
After giving birth to her first child in 2011, Lara became inactive at work. She said that she and her husband Mahesh Bhupathi had decided that one parent would be with their daughter Saira at all times. She said, “When Saira was born, being with her through her early years was my priority. Mahesh and I were clear that between both of us, one parent will always be with Saira full-time.” She added that her choices of roles had to be worth leaving Saira and going to work.
She also said that she took on fewer roles because they sometimes just weren’t good enough. “I was also seeking a metamorphosis in the kind of women characters being written and offered to me. It has to make a difference or add value to lives,” said the actress.
