Murder was one of the great movies that we have blessed the Indian cinema. The movie had some bold scenes too. Mallika Sherawat faced a lot of backlash because of similar reasons for Murder. She opened up on the same and said that she was almost morally assassinated. She said that now the way viewers perceive actors has changed.
Mallika Sherawat Says She Was ‘Morally Assassinated’ for Murder
Mallika made her debut in a leading role in 2003 with Khwahish. The year after that she starred in Murder. Both the films were known for their bold scenes. Therefore, sadly, this made Mallika a sex symbol for many.
Speaking with a leading daily, Mallika said, “When I acted in Murder (2004), I was almost morally assassinated for those scenes I shot; I was seen as a fallen woman. Today, those things I did back then are common in our films. People’s perceptions have changed. Our cinema has changed.”
“But even now, when I think of it, nothing beats the cinema of the 50s and 60s. We had wonderful roles for women, but we lack that beauty in our films in a big way. I have waited for years to get a role that has substance,” she added.
The movie was directed by Anurag Basu. It featured Mallika as Simran. Murder also starred Ashmit Patel and Emraan Hashmi. Simran was a girl stuck in an unhappy marriage with a workaholic man, Sudhir. The character of the latter was played by Ashmit Patel. Thereafter, she has a chance to meet with her former lover, Sunny. The guy’s role was essayed by Emraan Hashmi. Simran starts an affair with Sunny. However, she is soon caught up in the overwhelming guilt of cheating and infidelity. Therefore, she ends the relationship. But Sunny is determined to get Simran back at any cost.
Mallika also acted in films such as Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Aap Ka Suroor, Welcome and Double Dhamaal. She has been a part of international projects including Jackie Chan-starrer The Myth, Politics of Love and Time Raiders.
