TMKOC’s Priya Ahuja Accuses Asit Modi Of Humiliating Her
In a lengthy interview with Etimes TV, Priya Ahuja discussed how her Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah character was underutilized and how Asit Modi responded seismically to her request for employment on the show. Priya alleged that despite being involved with the show for more than 5 years, she never received a pay increase. She also said that the producers never invited her to any events or performances to promote TMKOC, and when she questioned them about it, they always blamed the PR department.
Priya Ahuja: “Asit Modi didn’t respond to my texts or calls”
Priya even texted Asit Modi, the producer of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, to inquire about her part. When he eventually picked up, Asit asked Priya, “Why do you want to earn? Sit like a queen at home. Your husband has a job. Priya stated that she last communicated with Asit Modi while her husband Malav Rajda was the show’s director.
The former actress texted Asit Modi once more to inquire about her job, and she claimed that he contacted her to inquire, “Kya hua? How are you? He just answered, “Baad mei baat karenge,” and hung up the phone when I explained that I needed to be informed in advance about my involvement in their performance. When Priya spoke to Asit Modi last, he hung up oddly, according to Priya. She decided to stop contacting him since it was embarrassing.
The actress remarked, “My track was eating me alive with uncertainty. I continued to watch this show because I refused to take a significant part in another daily drama. I held on in the hopes that I would be needed for 10 to 12 days each month as I had been informed. Had been watching the play long enough to inquire of Asit Modi about the future of my character. Please take note that I informed him I wasn’t doing it for the money. Rather, I wanted to work because I was emotionally spent.”
She continued by saying that Asit Modi never made her feel uncomfortable. He always told her, “Mere saath professionally galat hua hai. Personally nahin.”
