After Article 15, Anubhav Sinha is back with “Bheed,” another exciting story. Based on actual events, the movie depicts the plight of migrant labourers who were scrambling to find alternate routes home during the COVID-19 countrywide lockdown. The Bheed film, which was shot in black and white, has drawn mixed to generally favourable reviews from critics and viewers. The filmmaker finds it strange not to see the crowd in the theatre despite the film continuing to receive plaudits.
The movie appears to be having trouble selling tickets based on how it is doing at the box office. With recent releases like John Wick: Chapter 4 and Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, it has also been up against the stiff competition. Anubhav Sinha stated in a recent interview that he is surprised to see the accolades for “Bheed” while theatres are empty. Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana, Pankaj Kapur, and others play important roles in the movie.
Bheed film:
Anubhav Sinha remarked, “Sometimes you make a picture that gets rejected. And you recognise that even if it’s a great film. People didn’t connect with it,” in an interview with film critic Bhardwaj Rangan on Galatta Plus. He further adds, “You’ll eventually develop a tolerance for it. Maybe you could create a movie that people adore and go watch in theatres. This movie has gotten a tonne of love, adoration, and respect. More reviews are being written on Facebook and WhatsApp than I’ve ever read. Yet, nobody is present in the theatres. But it creates a slightly odd sensation. I’m torn between happiness and intrigue.”
Anubhav Sinha decided to tell the story in black and white to avoid using colour. The usage of black and white in the film’s aesthetics was largely done to draw attention to the stunning parallels between the societal division that existed during India’s Lockdown. And the experiences that people experienced during the 1947 India Partition. As the country’s border was drawn, the protagonists in this narrative had their lives significantly altered and their colours taken away.
Earlier, Bollywood Hush had also dropped the honest Bheed film review.
