Mrs Undercover Movie Review – ‘Common Man’ (Sumeet), a serial killer, is let loose and proceeds to murder 17 strong, pro-empowerment women. He has also assassinated the government’s covert operatives, which the Special Force the government hired in a panic. There is only one person remaining who must find the murderer at this point. It is Radhika, otherwise known as Durga.
It’s a great idea to have an experienced female undercover agent posing as a “simple housewife.” Like the goddess she is named after, Durga (Radhika Apte) has many hands, all of which are used to provide for her family. She prepares her child for school, attends to the numerous demands of her obnoxious husband, and takes care of her mildly quarrelling in-laws. Can a stressed-out housewife take on a feared serial killer?

Mrs Undercover Movie Review:
The past several years have seen a rise in the popularity of comedy satires. When it comes to balance, it might be very difficult to create a nearly flawless film in the genre. The key trick to making them work tonally is the substitution of a situational antagonist for a physical one. A terminally intriguing nemesis character can work if it is skillfully woven into the story, but situational ones are almost always the ones that work best. The latter issue affects Mrs Undercover since it tries the reverse.
Mrs Undercover, written by Anushree Mehta with assistance from Abir Sengupta on additional screenplay and language, enters the field with the best of intentions. It intends to call into question the innate misogyny of some chauvinists and the opposition of some members of society to the advancement of women. We could never have had a subpar movie, but only if the intent could make films function. The failure of this Apte Starrer to cling to one genre and instead strives to fit into others is the worst damage to its fundamentals. It starts out as a thriller, veers towards comedy, and ends with a speech that wraps up a satire.
Storyline:
There is nothing wrong with doing this, but there is a certain art to balancing everything here. Because a movie featuring an antagonist who kills 17 women in the most horrible way possible cannot possibly subvert into comedy. Because the opening scene depicts Vyas brutally killing a woman by pinning her under his cars nine times. All of these are shown, there isn’t even the slightest hint of humour to be found. Therefore, it bothers me when Radhika, as Durga enters the show and the comic aspect of her life, is revealed because it will be challenging to return to Vyas’ part now.
Mrs Undercover is entertaining even without the blood and guts. It makes for a light watch where one isn’t expecting much. But also enjoy it because of the way Radhika Apte learns and saves things. Or because of her theatrics that makes Durga so likeable. The movie must be seen as its whole because it is not the sole aspect. The movie’s last act rushes in like it was waiting in the wings and was anxious to be in the middle. The result is that the film becomes a superficial drama that never fully investigates its hero as it ought to. I wish the edges were sharper.
Screenplay:
In her sarees and occasionally Black Widow-style suits, Radhika Apte is endearing. The performer has a talent for giving characters a natural feel without doing much visually, and she does it once more. Because the character has been out of training for ten years. She is able to sell action despite it not being a strong suit.
In Mrs Undercover, Anushree Mehta tries to capture a lot, but the scales completely tip. One can observe that the movie has some positive aspects. However, it can be very challenging to avoid the plot flaws. Working along with DOP Abhimanyu Sengupta, they produce very recognisable pictures that appear to have been staged to compel you to feel a specific way. Both the music and the story lack a clear point and a crucial role to perform. Mrs Undercover is a highly undercooked product that struggles to find its voice and is tone-deaf.
