One of the top actors working today is Dibyendu Bhattacharya. He is not just a familiar face on both large and small screens, but he also contributes significantly to OTT platforms. The talk of the town is also the actor’s most recent performance in Main Monica, which is currently available on Amazon Prime Video. He discusses how the OTT medium has transformed our viewing patterns and how addicted the public is to it.
Mangu Shetty, also known as Mangu Anna, is a character played by Dibyendu who owns a dance bar. Dance bars were once a significant industry, as most of us are aware. There were several ladies working there to support their families. Dibyendu comments on the online series, saying, “The writers Ranjeet Chitrakar, Amber Wasi, and Paromita Ganguly are also the producers themselves. In this manner, both the production and artistic decisions are made in unison. My relationship with them dates back to at least 2018 when they were still developing the idea and first introducing me to Mangu Anna. I got to know them through my neighbour and friend Amrita.”
Dibyendu Bhattacharya:
He believes that as television had grown regressive and the film business was not expanding, OTT developed as an alternative entertainment and content-driven platform. Audiences now understand that quality content doesn’t require stars thanks to the OTT growth. In actuality, the star of the presentation is the material. This does not preclude OTT from creating irrelevant material, though. Every industry eventually reaches a point of saturation. We consistently attempt to imitate a successful recipe and wind up producing repetitive content. Because there is so much stuff available, people don’t have the time to watch it all, which creates a situation like a lucky draw, according to him.
When asked how he goes about getting ready for a role, he responds that he likes to keep up with current events. “I get my acting inspiration from life, which also serves as my source of inspiration for playing different roles. Also, I enjoy being fully involved in daily activities, such as preparing meals for my family, taking my daughter to a soccer game, conversing with my Sabzi Wala, and other such activities. I believe all of these experiences have helped me grow as an actor.”
Dibyendu wants to focus on OTT in a more significant way. The actor is quite excited about the numerous projects he has lined up. Everyone who is an actor has a dream role. When asked what his dream role would be, Dibyendu replies, “There is nothing as such. I wish to accept any nice role that is given to me. No particular characters come to mind. Because I am an artist, I dislike being categorised. They will always give you the same character if you want to play a police officer. Each character is presented uniquely by me. I don’t want to appear the same because I want to create distinct personas as an artist. Rather, with each persona I play, I want to recreate myself. I want to play the major character, whether they are the protagonist or the antagonist, but it needs to be a substantial part.”
