Rahul Dev Burman, often known as RD Burman or Pancham Da, was the prototypical music composer who captured the imagination and won the hearts of several Indians with his original musical works. These famous people discuss what they adore about this “God of music” on RD Burman’s birthday.
RD Burman’s birthday:
Arun Mandola:
The tunes of R.D. Burman are incredibly soul-stirring. Each word has a deep meaning. I love a lot of RD Burman’s songs, but ‘Dekha Ek Khwab’ is my all-time favourite; it’s a stunning melody with a meaningful message. On the other side, I frequently feel as though someone is incessantly banging on my brain while listening to contemporary music. I eventually came to the conclusion that the meaninglessness of these new songs is what’s causing me so much misery. It is tough to sing along because their lyrics are meaningless. Consider the song “Aaj Hai Party Party Party” as an example. How does one even sing that tune, and what is its intended use? Old tunes, on the other hand, are calming to the psyche and provide a sense of drive in life.
Akangsha Rawat:
My favourite song was “Tere Liye Palkon Ki Jhalar Bunu,” which was written by RD Burman! There are times when I wish I could travel back in time to when he was alive so I could hear the brilliance of his works performed live. He has made all of his songs famous. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for this specific song. I’m not completely sure why, but maybe it spoke to the inner me, the simple girl who dreams of marriage and wants to show her family love. These feelings are masterfully captured in the song.
Madalsa Sharma:
All of the songs from the film “Aandhi” rank among my favourite compositions by Pancham da (RD Burman). Gulzar Saheb’s rich and poignant poems and RD’s melodic songs came together to produce music that would live in the memory forever. I have a special place in my heart for the song “Dil Dhoondta Hai,” in particular. The songs from the movie “Aandhi” are timeless and memorable thanks to the wonderful symbiosis of Gulzar Saheb’s words and RD’s music.
Romiit Raaj:
R.D. Burman is the musical God in my opinion. Not only did he write amazing classical tunes, but he also transformed modern Indian music. His compositions pushed the envelope of innovation by using new musical instruments for the first time. In my opinion, there is no one in the Indian music industry who can compare to RD Burman. He worked with incredible vocalists, lyricists, and filmmakers to produce spectacular musical productions. He lived during the height of Hindi music. Every day, I make it a point to listen to music by RD Burman. Mehbooba O Mehbooba from Sholay and the mesmerising Tu Tu Hai Wahi song are a couple of my favourites from his sizable collection that also happen to be on my father’s list of favourite songs. The music of RD Burman continues to enthral and inspire me, making him an untouchable legend in the music industry.
Sheeba Akashdeep:
The song Jaane Jaan Dhoondta Phir Raha is one of my all-time favourites. I appreciate this particular piece’s arrangement, writing, and distinctive vocal style. Every time I listen to the song, something within of me connects with its enduring charm. It definitely captivates you with the way it combines different musical genres. Every element of this song exhibits the talent of RD Burman, making it a masterpiece that continues to enthral listeners of all ages.
Pawan Chopra:
R.D. Burman served as our first exposure to Western music and served as our ultimate rock idol. What a mix that was, with the addition of Asha Bhosle’s voice and lovely music. The song “Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani” is very elegant and creates a lovely scene. It’s the most swoon-worthy tune, in my opinion. I adore the way it conveys the emotion of love. Since Zeenat Aman was the nation’s crush and Amitabh was our lone idol, we went bonkers while listening to this song. The boatman’s Italian accent made the experience more interesting. It’s a romantic celebration that is smooth, soulful, and melodious. Everything is in this song. The boatman’s Italian voice taught me that music knows no language; it is the most gorgeous romantic song. What music and what a composition! This song celebrates love and takes you on a journey.
Balraj Syal:
In our sector, R.D. Burman has produced the top dance songs. His melodies continue to create the same joyful and vivacious attitude even today. It’s challenging to pick just one song, but even children will like his tunes. Songs like “Lakdi Ki Kaathi Kaathi Pe Ghoda,” “Yamma Yamma,” and “Mehbooba O Mehbooba” spring to mind as timeless favourites. I recall that my co-actor had just R.D. Burman tunes in his phone collection when we were working together on a Star Plus show a few years ago. I began listening to all of his songs at that point. His music has a unique and recognisable vibe.
Sudhanshu Pandey:
My first, automatic response whenever someone asks what genre of music I prefer is invariably RD Burman. I was raised listening to his music because I was born in the 1970s and was introduced to it by my father, who loved RD Burman and Kishore Kumar. “Mere Sapnon Ki Rani” is one of the many gorgeous songs he wrote, and it retains a particular place in my heart. My first recollection of romantic music is this song, and the way it was sung conveys a lovely intensity. I used to listen to it a lot, and each time I did, it brought back happy childhood memories and the sheer joy of hearing his music. The unmatched variety of RD Burman’s music was what gave it its true originality. He readily wrote songs in every genre imaginable, whether they were Western, classical, mid-tempo, or high-tempo. His tremendous variety made him a great musical genius.
