Actor Charrul Malik, who was a journalist before she began acting, says the multiple transitions in her profession have been difficult. She does, however, say she is pleased with how her career has developed. The actress claims, “I’m very happy with my career right now because I’ve come a long way, from various backgrounds and after doing various things. I should say I’ve done a lot of experimenting. From law school to mainstream newscaster to entertainment producer and anchor, to actor. I’m extremely pleased with my professional trajectory, which I believe has taken shape quite well. I’ve worked very hard on it, and I’m still working hard today and tomorrow. “Every day is a learning day,”
The actress continues, “When I look back, there were a lot of struggles. Nobody gets to where they are in life unless they struggle. I blew up several opportunities. I was under contract while I worked for a news channel. Bigg Boss was offered to me. I couldn’t go since I was bound by the contract. That was a chance I passed up. I still feel bad about it. We must all handle the situation well since we have no other choice. For a day, I was depressed. But I eventually realised that perhaps this opportunity was not meant for me, and after that. During my time with the news channel. I was called to the Bigg Boss house with Farah Khan and stayed for four to five weeks.”
Actor Charrul Malik:
There are many more job prospects today than there were previously, according to the actress, who adds, “The number of mediums has really increased.” TV, movie, theatre, OTT, YouTube channels. However, I believe in quality over quantity. Others are already in queue if one does not take advantage of the opportunity. I believe it is a competition in which you must stand out from the crowd. You can either be like them or be exceptional in your approach, to your thought process. Shere you must portray or exhibit yourself in a new way. So the rivalry is fierce, and one must be very unusual and unique.”
Charrul Malik confesses, “You must market or project oneself in a new light. A lot of people are also travelling down the wrong path, doing whatever it takes to fit in with the trend. That is not something I want to do. I’m content in my comfort zone. But I really want to work on interesting projects, such as web series, movies, and web shows. I don’t want to be in the spotlight merely for the sake of being in the spotlight by wearing or saying something unusual or controversial. I believe that is not my path and do not wish to walk along it.”
She further adds, “I’m looking for good opportunities, to do impactful roles in web series and films, and even if I get a good TV show. That’s fine with me. I’ve played so many characters that I can’t focus on just one. And I have no regrets. I’m open to trying out for new parts and characters where I can prove myself.”
Charrul Malik gets candid:
When asked how she stays current, she responds, “I believe in being myself first because I do not copy anyone. To begin, I view every actor through this lens: how they act, and what their unique selling point is, but I don’t believe in imitating anyone. People nowadays imitate. First and foremost, you must be unique. The more natural you are, the better your acting will be. So, I guess I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for the sake of my trade.”
She continues, “I watch everyone in films, web shows, and other platforms to learn the attributes of good actors. I’m not sure if I’ll be successful, but I don’t want to lose myself in the process. I want to be in charge and myself. You should carve out your own niche and maintain your unique flair. It’ll be fantastic. Improve your craft. I believe that the best thing you can do is to observe, and you must also be a good listener. That’s what I’m doing, and it’s working.”
She enjoys watching films, TV shows, and series and claims that each one teaches her something new. “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a film I’ve seen several times.” I’ve been watching anchor-based shows because I used to be one and would want to anchor a decent show as an entertainment anchor someday because it was my forte. I enjoy watching shows focused on anchoring, such as Kaun Banega Crorepati.”
Charrul concludes:
The actress concludes, “Reality shows appeal to me more than serials and comedy shows. I used to watch a lot of F.I.R. and The Family Man. So I have a bunch of favourite shows and online series. Another of my favourites is Delhi Crime. Shefali Shah is a fantastic actor. There are other actors I admire and learn from, including Pankaj Tripathi, Shefali Shah, and many others. I adore how they act and carry any role so effortlessly. If we’re talking about Superstars, there’s Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan sir, and Manoj Bajpayee.”
