Bold moments on OTT today, according to actor Megha Chakraborty, have become rather commonplace. In fact, she adds, certain platforms were developed especially for this type of content to increase subscription rates.
She confesses, “These incidents are unfortunately all too common. However, I personally don’t like it occasionally since it seems to have been tacked on. These scenes can also be displayed artistically. Today, however, there are very few series without these kinds of sequences. And I don’t like it personally. Noting that some projects or applications have been made for this kind of series that simply contain bold scenes, intimate scenes, and no narrative. This is done so that users can download the app and pay a reasonable monthly fee. Bold sequences are still introduced to projects, later on, to attract attention and sell them, even though they work on better ideas.”
She does, however, emphasise that she won’t be acting in such sequences on shows. The actress says, “Even if the storyline and circumstances call for bold or intimate scenes, I will decline since I’m not comfortable doing them. These kinds of sequences, in my opinion, maybe simply displayed in shows if these daring and private scenes weren’t in the script. And I’ve seen that not many series or episodes featuring bold scenes have succeeded. I won’t agree to do anything even if it’s in the script because I don’t feel comfortable doing it. No matter how charming the persona or how worthwhile the endeavour may be, I won’t do that. It’s a personal choice; while it’s rather normal these days, I don’t mind if others do it, she says. However, it’s not common for me.”
Actor Megha Chakraborty:
Megha Chakraborty continues by pointing out how unpleasant it is to watch such shows with relatives. Furthermore, she adds, “However, this is presently altering. “In order to prevent awkwardness while watching it with family, we used to switch channels when these types of moments were broadcast. However, under the name of education or sex education, you cannot go into great detail. Just for fun, TV. Almost nothing may be exhibited in the name of entertainment. You are not allowed to take any action in the name of freedom of speech or thought. Therefore, I don’t think enjoyment without them is impossible, even if everyone accepts it as normal.”
She continues, “Even though there is amusement, there are still not many works that are engaging, have great tales, and avoid using daring intimate moments. Despite being uncommon, people value them. It is not necessary to obtrusively insert intimate situations, though. Although there are evident differences between now and then, it is now considered usual for everyone to see situations like this with their families. I don’t believe situations of this nature are instructive. In fact, 15 to 16-year-olds are making content similar to this for reels.”
Megha adds, “Today, everyone, including young children, keeps a tab where they can view films or play games. These kids are given tabs from an early age to help them stop crying, so they grow up knowing how to use them. Children are fascinated by and quickly grow used to the many films and adverts that are displayed when you browse YouTube. At their age, they are seeing videos that are inappropriate. Parents today urge their kids to create videos. They are welcome to make reels or videos; but, the kind of videos they are making about love music scares me even more.”
The actress concludes, “Children who are now in school are making romance films without worrying that their parents or anybody else may see them. Everyone wants to be famous, and I think it is costing them their innocence. We experience both benefits and drawbacks of technology in our daily lives. They undoubtedly have access to everything at an early age now.”
