Social media, according to actress Megha Chakraborty, has grown significantly in importance recently. No matter how much experience you have, she claims that your social media presence determines how successful you will be in this field. In reality, she says, experience isn’t really a factor in this situation.
She says, “You occasionally decide not to accept a job due to financial concerns. Whether or not you are a good actor is irrelevant. They are fine with spending that much money on anyone. Additionally, a sizable number of actors have volunteered to contribute to the film’s limited budget. So it’s not like they have a particular star or spending limit in mind. Despite having a strong fan base and a large budget, they might still be cast even though they are less deserving.”
The actress confesses, “Therefore, casting decisions are made based on who is popular and has a high number of followers, not on the basis of their worth or ability or even on experience. Regardless of the field you chose, you will advance. But it doesn’t matter how much experience you have in this field. Many older artists, I’ve seen, don’t obtain employment because they aren’t active on social media. Instead of them, actors who are just active on social media are given possibilities. So everything is now ruled by social media.”
Actress Megha Chakraborty:
She continues, “Finding the perfect job opportunity is a chore, and if you are famous on social media, you might become an actress since lip-syncing and dancing these days make you famous. If you have millions of followers, you can become an actress. If you’re a good or bad actress, you’ll still have a shot. It’s obvious that competition has increased. And I’m not sure which form of media—OTT, TV, or film—is superior. Since I come from a middle-class family, I can’t just sit at home and wait for a chance to present itself. Before breaking into OTT, you must struggle for one to two years. You cannot watch TV and OTT because you work every day of the month. You just have a short amount of time, and we are unable to manage it. So, you must either delay or decline to watch TV. It is definitely difficult.”
She adds, “I see a lot of underserved people who were famous and did wonderful work, but in terms of acting, they’re not good and are below average, yet their shows are still successful. It happens frequently that people who are not that brilliant at their occupations receive assignments. No one will even bring up the acting, anyway. Their fan bases and notoriety can only be increased by appearing on popular television programmes or in reality competitions.
Megha concludes by saying, “Only when a deserving person is not given the chance to work do we get unhappy. Whatever you want to call it, I usually think of it as fate. Being at the right place at the right time is therefore crucial. Things cannot be changed, but you can force yourself to work hard and develop. We are powerless to resist. We have seen people get famous as a consequence of poor trolling, therefore I cannot publicly declare that this person is worthless and cause a scene in order to become famous. I won’t do it, for that reason. I’m handling it the way I am as a result.”
