Baisakhi celebrates life, the beginning of a new harvest, and Guru Gobind Singh’s founding of the Khalsa Panth, in contrast to most Sikh festivals, which honour the guru’s birthdays or martyrdom. As a result, there is great enthusiasm among them as they celebrate the event. Although everyone has their own method of reaching a higher power, many believe that modernization has diminished the traditional enthusiasm for holidays like Baisakhi. TV actresses Simaran Kaur & Rishina Kandhari opine on this prominent festival.
The first day of the month of Vaisakh is known as Vaisakhi, which is also pronounced as Baisakhi and Basoa. It is customarily observed yearly on April 13 and, on occasion, April 14. In Northern India specifically, it is seen as a celebration of the spring harvest.
Simaran Kaur & Rishina Kandhari:
Simaran Kaur
“Because it is a part of our tradition and, in fact, is more of my family’s tradition than anything else, this holiday has a very unique meaning for us. I’ll adorn my Mumbai home and prepare dishes like kadi, peeled chawal, and Phirni. Do the Paath on the day that you visit the Gurdwara. I believe that everyone has started to celebrate the festival at home. I always make sure to wear something yellow like a Kesari, prepare a Kadha prasad, and spend the day with my loved ones. All I can hope for is that Baisakhi ushers in a new day.”
Rishina Kandhari
“The event marks the beginning of Baisakhi and the harvest season, which I will celebrate with my family. One of the happy holidays that teaches us the importance of unity is this one. Usually, we travel the path to the Gurdwara and sing hymns. I make it a point to cook Kadha Prasad, wear yellow or a Kesari combination, and spend the day with my loved ones. On this day, we typically have special dinner plans. I decided to prepare a tasty meal for my family this year. I only hope that this Baisakhi ushers in a new day and that everything gets back to normal for everyone.”
